![]() Have you been able to find work in the audio industry or are you working in another field temporarily? I found myself in hard place, but the best thing that came out of it was I was able to bring together different groups of people from different production companies in the area. After that I was lucky enough to team up with a local production company and try to find new ways to bring in clients and creative solutions to put on events in Pacific North West area during the early stages of the pandemic. I was touring on the Whitney Houston Hologram tour early this year and March 13th I had to fly back from Amsterdam because the tour got cancelled. I have been touring professionally since 2008 and it has been my livelihood since COVID-19. A few of my other favorites that have made me grow as a professional audio tech and engineer have been Peter Frampton, Coachella, Stage Coach, Godsmack, Mayhem Festival, Uproar Festival, Ballyhoo!, Flobots, and Steve Miller. Each day brought new challenges and a sense of brotherhood with my fellow coworkers. I would have to say one of my favorite tours I have been a part of is the Warped Tour. I’ve been blessed to work on a lot of tours for many different audio companies and bands. ![]() What are some of your favorite tours or gigs you’ve worked on? After I watched him work on the mix during the whole set, I saw how fun, challenging and technical a career in live sound could be, and the rest is history. He invited us into FOH and I was truly blown away by the console. He’s also worked popular festivals including Coachella, Stage Coach, Warped Tour and more! But for the most part people have had to take work outside the industry. ![]() Some have been able to pivot to other audio work, whether it is in the studio or live-streaming or podcasting. What are some of the creative ways you have seen other people in the industry continue financially? It is going to be slow going when we can do events again. We will have lost venues, vendors, and crew people. It has brought so much damage industry-wide. How do you think the pandemic will shape the music industry moving forward? So always having my monitor rig makes life much easier. Well at this stage in my career I am fortunate that we usually carry production for both Pearl Jam and Eddie Vedder. ![]() So it was always my home and I have never left the stage nor desire to.Īs a touring Monitor Engineer, what 5 things do you always bring along with you? He worked FOH, I did the stage: stage patch and monitors. I worked with Dave and many shows were just me and Dave. At the beginning of Rat we all did what needed to be done. What influenced your path that led you to becoming a Monitor Engineer over a Front of House Engineer? There was nothing that really influenced it. In the past we interviewed her daughter, Sammy Keyes-Levine, and thought it would be cool to talk with Karrie too! Karrie has been a huge inspiration in the industry and last year she received the Audio Innovator Award at the Parnelli Awards.
